12/19/2023 0 Comments Bliss brothers ice cream![]() ![]() There was a time when I added these to my coffee and if it didn’t taste right I would just add one or the other until it did. And, as we both drink our coffee the only way it should be drunk, black, to get the true flavor, we believe that a coffee that is not that good might be masked for those who use cream and sugar. Bad ratio? Wrong brewing temp? We couldn’t figure it out. This was a point of discussion during the meal as we sat very near the coffee machine and watched as the beans were fresh ground before brewing. It was Downeast coffee, a brand we’ve had many times before and enjoyed as a typical, diner type of coffee. That said, for us at least, there are some basics which must be on a menu, a foundation, if you must, to support our conception of what makes a breakfast place deserving of the name. ![]() Vegan, vegetarian, upscale, brunch, are all in our repertoire, now, and we’ve come to find “breakfast” has now a broader meaning than when we started this blog. We’ve had, however, an extensive education over the years about breakfast and have had to expand our minds a bit to the (rapidly) changing world of food service. Traditionally, Ray and I would not come to a place like this for breakfast because our image of breakfast began and ended with diners. If you actually need the address you’re not from around here. Recently, we decided to visit the few remaining chain/chain-type of dairy related (think ice cream take-out window places) restaurants which also serve meals dining room style: Newport Creamery, Friendly’s, Bliss Brothers. ![]() We discuss a wide range of topics important only to two friends who drive around looking for a place to eat.
